Project Engineer (E&I /Mechanical)

Due to our continual production expansion, we are currently looking to recruit a Project Engineer (Mechanical and/or E&I).

For this role candidates will need to hold a suitable engineering qualification or have proven experience.  

This role would ideally suit somebody who values the importance of attention to detail and has the ability to work using their own initiative whilst also being part of a team. Excellent communication skills and being commercially aware are essential for the role. Oil and gas experience would be an asset but you could equally be from a capital equipment or similar background.  

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Required to run and control all aspects of design and production of custom-built packages handling a variety of gases.
  • The raising of purchase order specifications and bills of materials ensuring project costs are monitored and maintained.
  • Raising technical specifications for steel work/piping components, (mechanical), and/or motors/instruments (E&I) and all necessary supporting items.
  • Working with the design team (drawing office) to produce required technical drawings for both production and client’s requirements.
  • Assist in the scheduling and monitoring of timescales.
  • Liaising directly with clients to ensure requirements are met and engineering specifications complied with.
  • Understanding and complying with regulatory processes.
  • Controlling the manufacture of pressure vessels to ASME VIII & PD5500 and liaising with outside vendors.
  • Understanding of material specifications.
  • Understanding of IEC standards (E&I).

DESIGN DRAFTER

This role would ideally suit somebody who values the importance of attention to detail and has the ability to work using their own initiative whilst also being part of a team.  Excellent communication skills and being commercially aware are essential for the role.  

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Working closely with the Project Engineering department using SolidWorks 3D to produce drawings to meet both clients and production requirements.  These can range from component parts to full skid package layouts, both mechanical and electrical (wiring).
  • Taking full note of standard engineering practice and clients contract specific requirements – in particular noting materials of construction, inspection requirements and regulatory requirements
  • Taking part in production/project review meetings to ensure timescales are adhered to
  • Assisting in raising Bills of Materials for sub-assemblies, piping, bolting etc and assisting in the purchasing procedure to ensure timely arrival of required materials (liaising with Production Engineers)
  • Maintaining drawing logs and documented evidence of issues for the production department within our ISO 9001 system
  • Assisting with the raising of other technical documentation as required to meet Roots contractual commitments
  • Production of material and weld traceability maps.  Assisting in collating Manufacturing Record Books.

QUALITY ENGINEER

Your role will be to contribute to the internal quality, supplier quality, customer quality as well as regulatory and compliance activities. You will come from an engineering background, with a lot of passion for quality and process improvements.

Our ideal candidate will have a HNC/HND in Quality, Engineering or equivalent.  You will also need a good understanding of ISO9001 and requirements of API, ATEX, IECex and weld procedures.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Working closely with interfacing departments on process validation, control, and procedural improvements
  • Ensuring project level compliances are met and adhered to
  • Investigating quality issues, understanding component interaction, driving to root cause and implementing corrective actions
  • Working with suppliers and internal departments to improve the overall end to end process
  • Managing the calibration of instruments used in manufacture, validation, & inspection
  • Conducting risk assessments
  • Developing protocols for inspection and evaluation of data
  • Advising and training colleagues on aspects of quality management
  • Internal auditing/preparing reports to evaluate effectiveness of quality systems
  • Providing support for customers in terms of complaint handling, customer returns and ongoing quality support

For this role you will need strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be capable of producing comprehensive technical reports.

FABRICATION AND PIPE SHOP FOREPERSON

Roots Systems Ltd are World Leaders in the design, manufacture and production of skid mounted rotary compressors for the oil and gas industry. Due to our continual production expansion, we are currently looking to recruit a Fabrication and Pipe Shop Foreperson based in Stonehouse to join our team. The hours of work are Monday to Thursday 7.30 am to 4.00 pm and Friday 7.30 am to 1.30 pm.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Responsibility for the efficient and safe operations in the Fabrication and Pipe Fitting Shops
  • Managing the fabricators in the team on a day-to-day basis, briefing work and utilising planning systems to schedule works
  • Providing hands on advice and support to team members
  • Assessing jobs, quotations and checking drawings prior to manufacture
  • Ordering materials, managing stock, and ensuring correct materials are issued
  • Performing quality inspection of completed works and arrange for all fabricated parts to go for shot blast and paint
  • Supervise build of package, prepare package for FAT test, liaise with Inspectors, prepare package for shipping
  • Completing all material maps for Engineering Department
  • Assisting with ‘Quality’ and ‘Health & Safety’ implementation of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements related to all aspects of the shop operation.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with the ability to motivate and lead a team. You will be self-motivated with a desire to set high standards of work performance for yourself and your team.

You will have fabrication and pipe fitting experience together with knowledge of welding procedures as applicable to ferrous, non-ferrous, and exotic alloys. Previous experience of working in a manufacturing, package building or engineering environment is essential. This is also an opportunity for a skilled craftsperson looking to move into a supervisory role.

Your excellent communication and organisational skills will give you the ability to manage competing deadlines.
