Roots Systems (part of the Rotolok Group of Companies) is a leading manufacturer of rotary-lobe compressors, blower and vacuum packages. These are sold worldwide, with major markets in the USA, central Europe and the Middle East. Our equipment is supplied into numerous industries including oil & gas, chemical, petrochemical, power plant & nuclear. The emerging ‘green-tech’ market, with the drive to net zero, offers Roots Systems exciting growth opportunities and we have already supplied and are dealing with applications for hydrogen, carbon capture and energy storage. We manufacture, package and test our skid mounted packages in our facilities in UK.

Currently based in Stonehouse, the Company has grown over the past 10 years and during 2025 will be moving to a larger and improved production facility in Gloucester.

You will report to the CFO and your work will be crucial as we embark on financial and operational reporting transformation. This role is being created to support the Company and Group in executing the 5-year plan.

Our ideal candidate will have ACA/ACCA/AAT Level 4 or equivalent or demonstrable experience of working in a similar role. Candidates will need experience of multi-currency and multi-territory reporting. Knowledge and experience of accounting systems with the ability to consolidate standard reporting and managing data integrity throughout is essential.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Financial and operational reporting
  • Monthly Management accounts
  • Calculation of long term revenue accounting UK
  • ERP implementation and enhancements of reporting
  • Preparation and submission of quarterly management accounts for bank reporting
  • Annual budgeting and forecasting
  • Improving budgeting and forecasting processes across the group to improve quality of monthly and annual financial reporting
  • Preparation of monthly global sales and revenue reports
  • Statutory reporting
  • Annual financial statements audit UK
  • Provision of information and supporting documentation for UK auditors
  • Consolidation of global financial statements to UK holding companies
  • Liaison and working with external accountants in UK and overseas
  • Coordination of overseas audits to meet UK timetable.
  • Management of timetable with overseas entities and auditors to ensure timetable is met.
  • Support to CFO for ad hoc reporting and analysis
  • Consistent use of nominal ledgers and reporting conventions across the group (management accounts and financial accounts) to improve reporting
  • Use of systems to improve reporting and control

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with a desire to set higher standards of work performance for themselves. You will need excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage workload with competing priorities and frequent interruptions.

You should also have the ability to quickly establish and where appropriate further develop effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Some travel required to Tiverton for CFO meetings on ad hoc basis.

THE CANDIDATE

If you are customer focused, solutions orientated and strive for excellence then you could be just what our business is looking for.

For this role you will need to be highly numerate and have a degree in a physical science, engineering or mathematics. Chemical engineering or mechanical engineering would be the most suitable.

Our ideal candidate will have knowledge and understanding of rotating machinery, such as pumps, compressors, and mechanical seals and their support systems, and of fluid- handling equipment, such as piping, valves, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and measuring instruments.

Experience of working in the engineering sector is required. A new graduate without this experience would be considered for the position of Junior Proposals Engineer.

You will need to be commercially aware, with knowledge of sales and marketing techniques.

You will need to have exceptional communication and organisational skills and be confident in the use of Microsoft applications, especially Excel and Project.

We are looking for a team player who is self-motivated and has a ‘can-do’ attitude.

THE ROLE

The Proposals Engineer will provide timely, accurate quotations for compressor packages through interpretation of application requirements, dealing with technical and commercial queries whilst providing a high-quality service to global customers.

The main duties of the role are:

  • Reading customers’ enquiries, including data sheets, project specifications, P&IDs, and terms and conditions
  • Selecting appropriate materials of construction, flow control, sealing systems, lube oil systems, cooling, acoustic attenuation and instrumentation for new compressors and compressor packages. Advising customers on these according to their needs.
  • Performing calculations, for example to size equipment such as compressors, motors, auxiliary systems and components
  • Writing RFQs for suppliers
  • Estimating costs and calculating selling prices
  • Writing proposal documents and supporting documents for bids
  • Maintaining accurate records of opportunities and bids
  • Attending meetings with customers

The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for the assembly of Blowers to the required specifications, standards and expectations of the client.

For this role you will need to have experience and knowledge of working with different materials of construction (mild/carbo/stainless/aluminium/nonferrous).  You will also need understanding and experience in the specifications, standards and expectations of supplying equipment within the petrochemical industry.   A Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent experience is desirable.

The main duties of the role are:

  • Assembly of mechanical fabrications using basic hand, electric and pneumatic tools.
  • The building of blower units to specification and approved drawings.
  • Preparation of components for shot blasting and paint.
  • Assembly and complete hydro testing of blowers and components.

The Manual/CNC Machinist will machine compressor components for small batch work as per the drawings provided.

For this role candidates will need to have experience of working in a manufacturing or engineering environment. A Certificate in machine shop technology/machine tool technology or a time served apprenticeship would be an advantage.

Experience of manual machining and of reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings is essential. Whilst experience of working with CNC machines and computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software would also be an advantage.

This role would ideally suit somebody who values the importance of attention to detail and has the ability to work using their own initiative whilst also being part of a team.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Making components using the manual mills, lathe, saw and radial drill.
  • Self-inspect components to drawing and report any manufacturing errors to line manager so corrective action can be agreed.
  • Ensure that production requirements are met in line with the production schedule.
  • Continually assess tool condition and maintain as necessary.
  • Provide input/feedback to decrease run times and down time to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
