For this role, candidates will need to hold a suitable engineering qualification or have proven experience leading technical projects in a similar engineering sector.

This role would ideally suit somebody who demonstrates attention to detail, technical and commercial acumen, and can work as both a self-starter and a team player. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential for this role.  Awareness of industry material and design standards e.g. ATEX and ASME is desirable.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Manage the delivery of custom-built compressor packages from start to finish and act as the main focal point for the project for client interfacing.
  • Schedule, control and monitor project activities to meet critical deadlines.
  • Engage directly with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure requirements are understood and met e.g. inhouse specs, regulatory processes, material, and design specifications such as ASME VIII and PD5500, industry electrical and instrumentation standards.
  • Resolve technical and commercial issues and find appropriate solutions, while ensuring Roots interests are protected.
  • Responsible for preparing project specific project management plans in accordance with the client requirements.
  • Responsible for internal and external project reporting.
  • Guide and expedite the design team to produce drawings that meet project specifications and drive production activities.
  • Raise purchase orders for a variety of structural, piping, controls and instrumentation equipment that meet specifications while remaining on-budget.
  • Collaborate with the production and QHSE departments to prioritise and schedule manufacturing, build, and test activities so critical milestones are achieved on time and within budget.

For this role, candidates will need to hold a suitable engineering qualification or have proven experience leading technical projects in a similar engineering sector.

This role would ideally suit somebody who demonstrates attention to detail, technical and commercial acumen, and can work as both a self-starter and a team player. Experience of managing a team would be an advantage.

An awareness of industry material and design standards e.g. ATEX and ASME is essential.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Ensure custom-built compressor packages are delivered to client and company spec from the project sales handover all the way through to package delivery to the client.
  • Review and steer the design and production activities throughout the project to ensure correct specifications and standards are met, without over-engineering solutions or causing unnecessary schedule slippage.
  • Engage directly with clients, suppliers, project, production, design and QHSE teams to ensure requirements are understood and met e.g. inhouse specs, regulatory processes, material, and design specifications such as ASME VIII and PD5500, industry electrical and instrumentation standards.
  • Support the project teams with resolving technical and commercial issues by finding appropriate solutions, while ensuring Roots interests are protected.
  • Guide and expedite the design team to produce drawings that meet project specifications and drive production activities.
  • Support the project team with the creation of key technical documentation such as the MRB, Installation and Operation Manuals, and Datasheets, by leveraging a team of project engineers and document controllers.
  • Oversee stewardship of project lessons learned and update company technical guidance material to support future projects.
  • Drive design standardisation efforts with the design team to improve cost and time performance on future projects.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a skilled and experienced CNC Team Leader to lead our machining team in a dynamic manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CAD/CAM programming, hands-on experience with machining castings, and proven leadership capabilities. This role is critical to ensure an efficient workflow, products are right first time and to drive through cost savings by seeking continuous improvement in CNC operations.

For this role you will need to have an NVQ/HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing along with a Certificate in machine shop technology or machine tool technology/machinist. Candidates will need to have demonstrable experience as a CNC Team Leader/Supervisor or Senior CNC Machinist.

You will have experience using multi-axis CNC milling and turning machines (3, 4 or 5 axis) and familiarity with ERP systems and production planning tools.

Our ideal candidate will be self-motivated with a desire to set high standards of work performance for self and others.  You will be organised, accurate and have an eye for detail.

Excellent communication, verbal and written skills are essential in this role along with the ability to lead, motivate, coach and develop a team.

Main duties of the role

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the CNC Team.
  • Program CNC machines using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM).
  • Oversee the machining of castings, ensuring dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
  • Optimise tooling, fixtures, and machining strategies for cast components
  • Conduct quality checks and ensure compliance with engineering specifications and safety standards
  • Train and mentor team members in CNC operations and best practices
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality departments to resolve technical issues
  • Monitor production schedules and ensure timely delivery of machined parts
  • Maintain equipment and oversee preventive maintenance schedules
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste
